The Journey is Amazing
I wanted to visit India, but the need for needles--at least four vaccinations--shifted my attention to meditative retreats in the U.S.
I got on Google, found a nine-day retreat called The School For The Work, and pictured myself meditating, doing yoga, and sipping fruity drinks by a resort pool in California. That nine-day retreat, nothing at all as imagined, changed my life.
I learned and did The Work of Byron Katie at The School, and when I returned home, I no longer felt at war with my husband. Also upon my return, I learned I'd received a life insurance payment. This allowed me to attend Byron Katie's Turnaround House, a 28-day residence program that allowed me to dedicate nearly a full month focused on doing The Work.
After that month, I returned to Oahu and didn't unpack my suitcases: I filed for divorce and went back to California. After 11 years of marriage and dependence, I purchased my own vehicle, got my own apartment, and lived by myself.
After a year in Santa Rosa, during which I attended another School For The Work as staff, I wanted to return to Oahu, so here I am. Same car, new apartment, and not by myself--I have a kitten named Bodhi.
Why am I sharing this? Because The Work literally changed my life; and if you're feeling what I was feeling--afraid, numb, paralyzed, unhappy, (insert terrible emotion here)--it's worth trying. The journey truly is amazing.
